The ten-year path to prosperity
As the second decade of the new millennium begins, the Hunter economy is in robust shape, with a strong labour market and healthy business conditions. But 10 years ago the economic story was very different, with the HVRF’s household surveys revealing deep concerns about the effects of the BHP closure.
So what has happened in the past 10 years to turn the Hunter’s economy from a slow and uncertain one to a strong and confident one today?
HVRF Director of Research, Dr Andrew Searles, traces the evolution of the Hunter’s economy in the latest Hunter Region Economic Indicators and will reveal the key drivers of that economic change at tomorrow morning’s Hunter Region Economic Update breakfast.
“We have used our time series data to provide results for our key economic indicators over the past decade,” Andrew said. “They show the extent and motivations for the restructuring that has taken place in the regional economy.”
The breakfast also features:
Steven Shepherd, Chief Economist, Sensis - Global and Australian Economic Outlooks – 2011
Dr Johannes Pauser, Research Fellow, HVRF - Economic impacts of the provision of productive infrastructure
