The Hunter Valley Research Foundation (HVRF) has appointed a new research fellow, Dr Johannes Pauser, following an international recruitment process to appoint an economist.
Dr Pauser, who began work at the Foundation in November, came to Newcastle from the University of Hagen in Germany, where he completed a prize-winning PhD, while working as a research and teaching assistant. He has a Master’s degree in Economics and extensive experience and knowledge in the areas of statistics, public economics, risk management, and general economic research.
HVRF Director of Research, Dr Andrew Searles, said the new position will enhance the Foundation’s regional research program and bring valuable new expertise to the Hunter.
“Dr Pauser’s research interests have been in productive infrastructure and the theory of production and international tax competition for foreign direct investment,” Dr Searles said. “His theoretical knowledge will bring a new perspective to our economic and social research programs.”
Dr Pauser, 31, who speaks excellent English, will contribute to the Foundation’s economic indicators and wellbeing research, as well as to updating the regional Input-Output Model.
“Research itself is an infrastructure good that tends to be under-supplied, with a lack of reliable information in many communities,” he said. “The Foundation makes a huge contribution to closing that gap in the Hunter. I will be glad to be able to deliver research results that are really important for the development of the Region and can help improve the lives of people who live here.”
