Economic impact assessments
Economic impact assessments are undertaken for private companies as well as government authorities. They usually involve use of the HVRF’s input-output model to quantify the benefits of specified developments to the Hunter Region. Frequently, other components involving the collection of primary and secondary data are included. The Foundation is also able to draw on an intimate and extensive knowledge of the Hunter economy dating back 50 years.
Recently completed projects:
- Assessing the potential economic impact of the proposed CPRS upon industry in the Hunter Region
Hunter Business Chamber, Dec. 2008. The project used mixed methodologies including analysis of the greenhouse gas exposure of each of the Hunter’s industry sectors, surveys of small to medium enterprises and 18 major employers in the Region to ascertain their awareness, preparedness and potential exposure to the CPRS, and economic analysis using the HVRF Input–Output model. - Value of medical research to the Hunter economy for Hunter Medical Research Institute
- Cost-benefit analysis of a University of Newcastle City Campus
- Economic and social impacts of public events such as This Is Not Art (TINA) and Surfest
- Community attitudes towards a proposed coal mine
