Economic Indicators

The Foundation maintains databases which capture information about the economic health of the Hunter, Upper Hunter and Central Coast regions. Many of our time series have been updated continuously for over 20 years allowing the Foundation to provide a unique and qualified assessment of major changes in the local economies. Data is collected from households and businesses using a series of regular omnibus surveys for each region or sub region. 

The key findings are compiled in three publications, which can be downloaded from the publications page.

  • Hunter Region Economic Indicators (quarterly)
  • Upper Hunter Region Economic Indicators (six monthly)
  • Central Coast Economic Indicators (six monthly)

Our databases are based on quarterly or monthly information in relation to:

  • Building approvals
  • Employment advertisements appearing in The Newcastle Herald
  • Coal and aluminium production
  • Labour force in total and classified according to occupation and industry
